Crystal Gazing

Post by Barleywine » 12 Jan 2018, 16:36

I received a large "reconstituted" (that is lab-created rather than natural) quartz crystal ball from my wife. I got Uma Silbey's book, Crystal Ball Gazing and I'm excited about working with both. It's very clear and bright, and 150mm (about 6") in diameter. I was lucky to have the Full Supermoon and clear nighttime skies right after I got it, so I put it out in the moonlight all night long. I will probably get a much smaller natural quartz ball just to try both types, but it won't be nearly as clear. For me as a beginner, the clarity is more important than the character.

yes it is a beauty, but remember, more than the ball, its the intent. And mixing up all that energy will be bring enjoyment.

I'm most of the way through Silbey's book now. She has a lot of good ideas for using the ball for meditation, centering and calming that are practical rather than mystical. She may get to the latter yet, but so far she has stayed within the realm of chakra work through breathing and concentration. I especially like her thoughts on charging the crystal ball with your intentions by holding different crystals in the left hand to receive or the right hand to project while gazing.

to be truthful. I don't really know anything about chakra, and I don't know the author. By the time i got into tarot i was 62 and back when i was paganish, chakras weren't mentioned much in books i frond. most of my pagan stuff was from Scott Cunninghams books. I cried when he died. I have quiet a few of his books. Back then we didn't have this source of knowledge and connection.

I was also deeply saddened when Scott passed. I have a few of his books, and just bought his two beginner's books for my wife. I explored Wicca for a while in the '80s, but I wasn't looking for a religion, and I'm still not. To be honest, I never worked with the chakras explicitly before, although I have an understanding of Kundalini. But Silbey's book has some exercises for working with cyclical breathing (something I've been doing for decades to fight off insomnia) in connection with the heart and crown chakras, and I'm finding them very inspiring.

Are you planning on doing readings? It’s a beauty.

I do lots of scrying with candle flames. Sometimes it’s freaky.
