Keyword: Faith
Upright Meanings: Organised religion, place of religious workshop, leader of religious practice, spiritual counsellor.
Reversed Meanings: Dogmatism, bigotry, hypocrisy, sanctimony

The image of the Pope in this deck is inspired by the pope in the Nicholas Conver Tarot De Marseille. He represents the most senior figure in the most prevalent and dominating religious movement at the time, the Roman Catholic church. He sits between two pillars symbolizing law and liberty, with his right hand raised in benediction.

As God's representative on earth, he is the bridge between man and divinity. In a reading he may indicate a spiritual adviser, a cleric, a guru, or possibly a counsellor or psychiatrist.

Religious authority; interpreter of divine will.

Yes, the Pope/Hierophant is the interpreter of the divine for the spiritual seeker. In this, he is different from the Hermit, which is all about his own mystical experience.
