Counting in the Opening of the Key

For discussing anything having to do with the Thoth universe at large (including the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Thelema, Aleister Crowley etc.)

Counting in the Opening of the Key

Post by Barleywine »

In the Book of Thoth, Aleister Crowley says to count 11 for the Aces, but in the Golden Dawn's Liber T it says to count 5. For those who use the OotK, which do you prefer and why? I tend to like smaller counts because - depending on the evenness of the cut - the four elemental subpacks may not have enough cards in them to support 11 (or 12 for zodiacal trumps) before running out of cards in the direction of the count. (Although I do see that Christopher Hyatt added a step in Regardie's Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic to just continue the count at the other end of the line until you return to where you started.)
