arggghhh! don’t you hate when that happens? :icon_evil:

i just kinda like the magician too. i know what you mean. but i love that tyldwick card — the floor and the wall have me oohing. the wall looks like an american quilt pattern. the repeating triangular design, in native american art at least, is called “flying geese”. my hupa/yurok friend taught me some basic designs back in the 80s and that one was my favorite, so it was a pleasant and unexpected surprise to see it in the magician’s room.

the cups card is nice too, and the swords...! it’s so subtle i can hardly stand it, hahaa. it’s sweet. as in tough or cool, not cute or anything. and so very dusty and distressed... jeez!

congrats on your almost 30 anniversary it’ll be 30 for us too in 2019! so glad you’re happy and content, and that the nine of cups comes visiting.. or should i say the nine of perfume bottles!

you must have some exquisite eau de parfums in your collection, and all organized too, according to scent families. :icon_e_wink: sigh... i remember basenotes.net back in the day. how thrilling it was. i can still smell hermès un jardin en mediterranee... one of my all time faves.

my tarotist friend has a dali universal tarot that his female friend doused in ysl’s opium. he was angry at first, because the alcohol had damaged the surface and smudged the ink. (i’d be angry because it’s not a favorite scent!) but his friend was from spain herself so i guess she felt it was fitting. but sadly, shortly after doing this (not days, but months), she died tragically — a brutal unsolved murder that occurred in 2015. my friend was devastated, and was left with only fond memories of their friendship and some of her personal belongings. and now, forever, it seems —as opium is so penetrating— a reminder of her signature scent. the dali cards are kept in their velvet box, and every time he opens it we smell cruz and think of her relaxing on some faraway spanish beach. (she swam from spain to gibraltar once, which i guess is quite a feat. she was an athlete.)

anyway, what i’m trying to say is that by spraying the perfume, she damaged some of the tarot cards so much that they now look a lot like the aging on your tyldwick deck! the random spots and spatters, i mean. i dunno, it seems kinda funny. :icon_e_smile:

mailing lists make the world go around. i hate how doing one thing signs you up unwittingly for a hundred more. it stinks.

your trip to ireland sounds amazing ~~ i’ve always wanted to visit the british isles... this sun card is interesting because it reminds me of my hupa/yurok friend (literally, it looks like him facially). the earthwork in the background is a nice touch, too, it’s not often you see them portrayed on anything.

how awesome you’re a librarian! :icon_eek: i know at least five or six, both in real life and on social media, all across the country.

the sun is a great card for a library, for the “light of knowledge” is shed here and illuminates corners of the mind to shape life. especially the young minds, as you say, that bring hope and contributions for the future.

i worked in the library during high school (and was also in AV, back when it was more opaque projectors than video) and the experience was very rewarding. we were an extremely crowded HS, with three full shifts on rotation because of severe overcrowding (aurora was the fastest crowing suburb in the nation during the late 70s), so the library was always a busy hub of activity, bright with the sunshine of youth yet calm with enforced whispers and the meditative swoosh of long wooden card catalog drawers being opened and closed. it was glaringly heliocentric, too. in addition to the library being situated in the very middle of the huge main building, our school colors were bright orange and yellow, just like this wildwood card. :icon_lol:

well, tgif, i suppose. i’m going to the library tomorrow, not for books but to “borrow” from the seed bank! it’s spring here in california. i hope your winter days warm up soon and grey skies part to let the sun shine in. ^_^

We're everywhere! :icon_e_biggrin: The only cruise I've ever taken was to Alaska, and it was done through a travel agency that specialized in educational vacations. The cruise line had removed the ship's casino and put in a library instead. I thought that was quite enlightened. Half the year, the ship cruised the coast of Canada and Alaska; the other half, it cruised Central and South America. People could actually take courses in the culture of various countries on this ship. Anyway, the library had a guest book that visitors could sign only if said visitor was a librarian. Needless to say, I added my name.

That's an excellent observation, and I'm going to pass it on to my colleagues, some of whom are also interested in tarot.

Are these heirloom seeds, by any chance? I've read about people who are trying to continue those plant lines.

So, on to Saturday's card, the Four of Stones:

This card symbolized protection, although the reader may interpret whether they need protection or are protecting someone/something else. It can also symbolize rest, as well as that calm place inside us that we've built by weathering adversity or strengthening our spiritual connects. Today it was mostly rest for me, as I had today off from work, and really appreciated a break from the crazy schedule at work this past week. I was able to focus on a couple of on-going projects at home and proceed at my own pace. However, it could also be taking a break from issues of home repairs, as I will have three projects I'd like to have done this spring, one of which is scheduled for next week, one that's almost ready to be started, and one that will have to wait a bit. I also had a break from dealing with my mother's health issues, as she is doing well and doesn't have any appointments until Monday.

Again, this card has a very Irish feel, with the dolmen/standing stones and their carved symbols.

oh that’s a lovely 4 card. it really gives a sense of protection with the stability of the stones, a good place to rest in safety.

there are all kinds of seeds. some are heirloom, but there isn’t an emphasis on those, there were just some tomatoes laebeled heirloom i think.

that’s so cool your colleagues are tarot friendly! It sounds like you landed yourself in the right place. It sounds like the cruise was perfect too! how unique to have a library on board the ship instead of a casino. my friend was telling me about a “tarot cruise” that his friend went on one year. it sounds fun — like minded people sailing on the seas!

A Tarot Cruise sounds interesting. I wonder where it actually goes....

Today, I continued with the suit of Stones: King of Stones:

Image

Ah, at last -- the Wolf. Of all the wild creatures in all the wild places, I love the wolf the most. If I were a witch in the Harry Potter world, my patronus would be a wolf. Among many Native American tribes, the wolf symbolizes the teacher; from wolf packs, humans learned the art of living and working together as a group (or so the legends say). Social or loner, the wolf has a wide range of personalities.

This card is related the King of Pentacles in other decks -- an authority figure, creative but not terribly imaginative, solid, protective. According to the Wildwood Tarot book, this card stands for someone who loves the land and nature, who draws on the wisdom of others in making decisions, who respects tradition.

Today being Sunday, I spent the morning in church (I'm a reader and a Eucharistic minister, and this was my Sunday to serve on the altar), so that certainly fits.

Yes, I think this deck and I will get along well, once I get used to reading it for itself and not as it relates to the RWS rules.

tarot cruise: i think it was a low key cruise that went around the great lakes and or the hudson river. so not a sea faring journey... my friend was very unsure of the details but he says it was hosted by rachel pollack. this may have been quite some time ago, too.

the wildwood does look like a deck that has its own story, and aside from similarities to RWS it stands on its own and would be interesting to learn the wildwood mythology. the connection to nature is what makes this deck so appealing. i love the howling wolf and moon artwork too. it's still the season of winter, i see. ^_^

The days fly by and I write hieroglyphs in my notebook, hoping to remember enough to write my thoughts down here later... I'm glad I'm in demand as freelancer but work always comes in waves... and this time, it's a big wave.

So let's see what my last Tyldwick card told me on Sunday.
Image

The Pope/Hierophant, my zodiac card (if you didn't know it - I'm a Taurus of the most Venusian kind ;-) ).

Here is the old AT discussion of this card, interesting as always. Sunday was a day at home, trying desperately to prepare all the stuff I need for the whole week because I knew that I wouldn't have time after that. There was nothing authoritative or organized about my efforts to reconcile my to-do-list and the time at my command - I think this Pope appears reversed, it tells me all that I was lacking. I used to be able to focus very well but lately, I find it difficult and I often run after my own deadlines.

It was not a bad day but the undiluted energy of the Pope would have helped me.

My Tyldwick week was not bad but I feel that this deck needs much more time than I can give it right now. I'm very happy I have it and maybe it's good that Neil Lovell didn't write a book or even a booklet - you really have to go through these quiet rooms alone and deal with the challenges and riddles.
