But sourdough, how hard could flour and water be? If I ever make any I will let you know how it turned out. Who knows, I may be really good at it.
Oh, give it a whirl. If it flops, at least it’s good for a laugh. And if it doesn’t, you’re in for a rare treat. Kinda fun watching the mating process too, if you’re into that kind of thing. I made a pornographic video one time.

Once upon a time I used to make a lot of bread - my recipie made three loaves worth. I actually don't have anywhere warm enough to make bread rise anymore. I tried making a 'no-knead' bread once; I think the yeast was too old.

I have since left the yeast out and make my own pasta dough instead. I have never bothered to make pizza dough - easier to go to the supermarket and buy fresh or frozen dough in a bag ... someone thought I was crazy when I said that - they thought pizza dough only came dry in a box! I told them that if their supermarket baked it's own breads that they sell the pizza dough somewhere in a cooler ... they had never heard of such a thing! :icon_eek:

Oh, I so love homemade pasta too! It’s been a while. I do it by hand, electric pasta machines are a joke, because my recipe is too heavy, & I’ve tried two. But I have an Italian crank device to flatten it because for me, trying to roll out my granny’s pasta recipe with a rolling pin is like trying to roll a super ball.

A bread machine works well to let it rise. Sometimes I bake it in the oven, just mix & raise in the machine, then put it in a bread pan & bake.

I once bought a bread machine at a tag sale for $10 - it did work well, but I hated prying the flipper out of the cooked loaf of bread! In truth - the bread was delicious, but I missed the 'human factor' of kneading and pounding the dough ... so I later sold the bread machine at a tag sale for $10 ...

I still make the pasta dough by hand, but using a hand-crank sheeter to roll it out evenly is faster and better for me, since it makes 5" wide noodles that fit best on my ravioli plate, or for me to cut into squares to make tortellini or cappelletti. LOL :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

i haven’t made homemade pasta before but the machines are familiar as i used them to roll out polymer clay for art projects.

a friend in AU makes the most beautiful pasta/lasagne noodles, embedding edible flower petals in between layers of dough. it looks like handmade paper!

I had to laugh about the pizza portion of this as this just recently happened to me with a friend I took grocery shopping. I had to pick up pizza shells myself and I always get the fresh dough wrapped up in the plastic bag, that we then allow to rise and stretch it out to make our own homemade pizza every Friday night. We use to make our own pizza dough, but this is just so much easier and one step saved. the friend I took shopping had never heard of this (and has been shopping at this store for decades--where I have just moved into this area recently!) and was shocked to learn that the homemade pizza dough is kept right next to the deli (where she gets her lunchmeat) in the refrigerated section. At .99 cents a bag, its also quite economical! And, definitely better tasting then the already made up boxed pizza you purchase, take home and pop into the oven. :)

I use to make bread too, the old fashioned way - (no bread machine). I did buy a "used" bread machine once, rather cheaply and it had never been out of its box -- but I didn't care much for it either, so after a few years, I passed it on to someone else. Now however, I don't really have the strength in my arms and hands for the kneading. But, I may try it out again, as I so love homemade bread! I loved all about it--the making of it, the kneading of it, especially the aroma of it baking in the oven and then the tasting of the delicious warm homemade bread! I could live on bread alone. :) And, now that the hubby works from home, if my arms get tired with the kneading, he can jump in and take over for awhile to get it done! We both love to cook together anyway-so I am going to try this again soon, I think!

I remember you sharing your pasta making vids too (as mentioned in another post after this one). We also use to make our own pasta as well, and have a nice pasta making machine we have to crank. Nothing better then homemade pasta! Anymore though, I'm lazy and end up buying it from the market. I do still make my own gnocchi though! potato gnocchi and ricotta cheese gnocchi. yum!

BTW ~ anyone who has never heard of buying pizza dough ready-made at the supermarket: just ask a manager or employee! Some stores have it in different places - but it's always in a cooler. Could be in the bakery department, near the deli, and if the supermarket has a food court that makes fresh pizza - it could be over near them, too! Pizza dough is bread dough - makes a great focaccia, too!

also BTW ~ many supermarkets sell frozen, pre-formed bread loaves if you want to bake a loaf of bread without doing the needing - usually in the section with the frozen rolls and such ...
