My Hat

Post by tarotbear »

After watching Marco Polo on Netflix twice, I was inspired to attempt Shisha mirror embroidery, among other things. I also wanted to make something for myself, so I decided to make a hat to wear with my 30-year-old Wizard costume, using YouTube instructional videos to stitch the mirrors in place, and also discovered Kutch embroidery and used some of that on the hat, too. When I was done, I also made a storage box so the hat would not get crushed.

That's pretty rad.

oooh, that’s a beautiful hat! such detail! very cool that you learned these new techniques... i’ve seen the use of those little mirrors on fabric before, like vests and such, but never knew how they did it. the embroidery is admirable!

Thank you, Everyone! There are many YouTube videos showing many different variations of the basic idea. [hint: use a tiny dab of glue to hold the mirror in the exact place you desire before stitching away!] I used some glass mirrors and also some holographic paillette [20mm] sequins.

okay i closely examined a middle eastern wall hanging i have that has the little round mirrors and see now how the stitching holds in the mirrors in place — sort of like a collar. so much detail in your hat, you did a great job.
