Deck of the Week #9: Feb 26 - March 4

Post by Nemia »

Pick a deck to accompany you through your week. Tarot, Lenormand, Oracles, any tool of divination is welcome. Let us know in the comments which deck you chose, and I'll add you to the list in this first post.

Before we start, tell us more about your deck and your expectations.

On Monday, we start drawing a card each day. Draw your daily card at the time you choose, morning or evening. If you don't have the time to read every day, just jump in when you can.

Sharing pictures is great but not required.

How do the energies of your daily card manifest in your life?

If you want to, you can experiment with the well-known routine and use two decks instead of one. Inspired by Barleywine's Situational Blueprint!

You may pull together all the cards of the week for one "how was my week?" reading before moving on to the next deck.

Do whatever you need to get the maximum power out of your daily reading, and feel free to share!

I decided to take my Golden Klimt for a ride. I bought the Golden Klimt and the Botticelli together (when an AT member dissolved her beautiful tarot collection) and I simply love the Botticelli - and Klimt much less. Actually, I love Botticelli as an artist and Klimt much less. I love Klimt's landscapes but all this fin de siecle decadence and splendour in his famous works is not my cup of tea. I prefer Schiele's sharper and less "lovely" art, he goes beyond Klimt. Klimt is such a crowd pleaser.

Botticelli was far more innovative in his time than Klimt was, he's simply more interesting.

BUT why should I compare them just because Lo Scarabeo produced two tarot decks, made by the same artist (Athanas Atanassov) in the same medium (coloured crayons) with the same gold foil, black borders and multi-language titles?

So let's do justice to the Golden Klimt, and maybe even to old Gustav the charmer himself, and spend a week with this deck!

my friend has the klimt in both mini and regular size and our mutual friend loved it so much that SHE bought it too! it’s not your fave (or mine) but he is definitely well loved!

where the erté deck?

the metallic foil on the klimt is nice but on the mini version it’s just too much. the scale is all wrong. but the stock is nice!

where’s the mc escher tarot?

there’s a fair amount of nudity on the klimt deck too. i read a review where a card reader at a coffee shop was told by the owner to put the klimt cards away because she didn’t approve of pornography... :icon_rolleyes:

i hope you pull the raciest cards just to get back at her.

I'm going to join again this week. I put all my cards away a couple of weeks ago and have been feeling fairly morose, so I haven't been motivated to do any reading. But I've got myself into gear again over the last few days so feeling in a better place to read without misery goggles on.

I will be giving the Norse Tarot (Clive Barrett) a whirl. I bought this on a whim, I have no idea why, I'm not into Norse things at all. But now it's here I feel I should give it a whirl. I'll be doing a deck interview with it tomorrow in preparation for Monday.

I'm going to keep working with the Wildwood Tarot this coming week. It's been a pretty positive experience so far.

The Norse Tarot is proving to be a very readable deck although I don't have the full book, just a small LWB Clive Barrett put together. I wasn't sure why I'd bought it as I'm not usually drawn to Norse mythology or iconography. But this is a lovely deck and has a friendly, positive vibe.

I've paired it with Thoth this week, which makes a good companion for it.

Monday and Tuesday went by and here are my cards... yes, let's hope for some nudity, I'm a shameless European and nudity doesn't disturb me at all.

Image
And there we are, nudity in spades... eh, Wands.

Five of Wands. She looks uncomfortable, nervous.... and indeed on Monday I felt that I came up short. I had the feeling that my preparations hadn't been good enough, that I performed beneath my own standards and that everybody else was just too polite to mention it. So smooth on the surface but inside, I felt horrible after the job was done.

Image

Three of Swords was today - again, the dire warning of the Swords didn't come true again, it was an okay day, I did better than on overwhelmed Sunday and underperforming Monday ;-)

The near future won't be much quieter. Strange, when I gave up my main job nearly a year ago I thought I'd have much more time but somehow this spare time has been absorbed into other things... and I should be grateful...

Should I take a brave look what the three Swords are that make me even unhappier than the five Wands? No, I can't look into that now. I keep my Pandora boxes (mythological Pandora NOT jewelry ;-) ) tightly closed and put away....

i'm not into norse art either. or celtic art for that matter. like, i never was drawn to runes, or celtic tattoos. but what an unusual 10 of of cups! it has the split screen effect, echoing the “stage curtain” line of the RWS.

yes, klimt and his nudes... and nudes means bubes. :icon_rolleyes:

interesting how the rendering of the figure looks similar (shoulders and arms especially) to the wands on that 5 card.... angular and hewn. she’s almost like an egon schiele figure.

Kind of skipped Monday, but Tuesday's card was the Eight of Bows:

Image

This card depicts fellowship, the celebrating or just acknowledging of a shared community. It's recognizing the kindred spirit of others who share your experiences, or who have been through something similar. It's a family, either biological or adopted. There's the warmth of camaraderie; note that the faces depicted represent different races and genders, because it's about celebrating what you have in common.

I guess the suit of the week is Bows! Today's card was the Ten:

Image

The card of responsibility. Take it as a compliment that people trust you to get things done. It's not about starting the job, it's about finishing it. Others are relying on your to do your part. The 10 of Wands cards are often about being overburdened or delegating responsibility, but this version is about shouldering the burden and completing the task. The fire burning in the village symbolizes the end of the journey, as well as others who will take what you carry so you can rest.
