At the bottom of the posting window you see three buttons. Save Draft, Preview and Submit.
When writing a longer post it is advisable to use the "Save Draft" function so you don't lose your work. Remember that if you walk away from your writing and enough time elapses, it's possible you could get logged out, so to be on the safe side, save your draft.
To retrieve a saved draft, just go to the thread or forum where you were posting, click "New Topic" (if you were starting a new thread) or Post Reply (if you were replying to one) and you will now see a 4th button called "Load Draft".
Click that and you will see a list of all your saved drafts. Select the one you want to work on and Viola! There it is.
